Food Preservatives May Increase Type 2 Diabetes Risk

A recent study spanning over a decade has revealed that individuals with a high intake of food preservatives face a significantly elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers from INSERM emphasize the importance of reducing the consumption of processed foods. Preservatives are commonly added to extend the shelf life of foods and beverages, but their health effects may be more concerning than previously thought.

The study analyzed health and dietary data from over 100,000 adults, identifying 1,131 cases of type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, overall consumption of preservatives was linked to a 47% increased risk, with certain groups of additives showing even higher risk increases. This research suggests that the use of these additives should be re-evaluated to enhance consumer protection.
