Dubai's Pistachio Cream Cookies Take South Korea by Storm

A dessert inspired by Dubai's chocolate has quickly gained popularity in South Korea. The cookies, filled with pistachio cream and strips of knafeh, wrapped in a chocolate marshmallow, have been spotted in numerous establishments, even in those that typically do not offer pastry items.

The popularity of this dessert skyrocketed after Jang Won-young, a member of the girl group Ive, posted a picture of the cookies on Instagram, leading to a surge in prices for key ingredients due to high demand. Prices for the cookies now range from 5,000 to 10,000 Korean won.

Stores are reporting impressive sales, with some imposing limits on how many cookies a single customer can purchase. One convenience store chain sold approximately 1.8 million cookies in a short period. The obsession with this dessert has even led to the creation of a map tracking the locations of stores selling the cookies and their stock levels in real time.

Despite the widespread enthusiasm, counterfeits have emerged, and some consumers have complained that the cookies they purchased do not meet the original standards. Culinary critics suggest that the cookies' popularity stems from their density and extravagant appearance, which reflect South Korean culinary culture.
