Promising Results in Peace Talks

Kyrylo Budanov, the newly appointed chief of staff for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reported that "concrete results" have been achieved in ongoing discussions aimed at ending the war and establishing post-conflict security guarantees with Western allies. Budanov provided these updates via Telegram as discussions were taking place at the Elysee Palace in Paris during the largest summit yet of the "coalition of the willing"—a group of 35 countries committed to supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Tough Discussions and Territorial Challenges

Zelensky emphasized that the discussions on Wednesday, which will again include U.S. emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will address "the most difficult issues" related to ending the war. In light of Russia's demands to cede four regions in eastern Ukraine, territorial questions represent the greatest challenges for Kyiv. A central issue remains the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Security Guarantees and International Tensions

The updates come a day after the United States pledged to support security guarantees for Ukraine, including leading a monitoring mechanism for a ceasefire. Meanwhile, France and the United Kingdom stated they would deploy forces on Ukrainian territory should a ceasefire agreement be reached. The announced progress occurs amid elevated tensions caused by Trump's aggressive foreign policy in Venezuela.

Ongoing Attacks

As discussions were held in Paris, Ukraine and Russia continued to attack each other on the ground. Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Russia's Belgorod region, igniting a fire that was ultimately extinguished. Simultaneously, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced it had launched airstrikes, employing drones, artillery, and missiles against Ukrainian drone launch sites, ammunition depots, and military equipment.

Patriotic and Religious Symbolism

Amid this ongoing conflict, President Vladimir Putin attended a Russian Orthodox religious service, highlighting the "sacred mission" of his troops to defend the country as he increasingly appeals to patriotic and religious symbolism as the conflict continues to unfold.
