Venezuela Asserts Sovereignty Before the UN Security Council
Venezuelan Intervention at the UN Security Council
While Nicolas Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, declared his innocence in a U.S. court over drug trafficking allegations, Venezuela's ambassador to the UN warned the Security Council that international norms are at risk. He described the abduction of the ousted president by American authorities as an illegal armed attack.
"I am still the president of my country," Maduro stated during his hearing in the American court. Despite international tensions and criticism from American officials, Maduro continued to assert his authority over Venezuela.
The aggressive stance of the United States has been challenged by various nations, who argue that this operation is illegal and contradicts international norms. The UN has begun to assess the legality of American actions, sparking a wave of discussions among Security Council members.
