Lack of Sleep Can Shorten Your Lifespan
Less than 7 Hours of Sleep Can Reduce Lifespan
A recent study conducted by the University of Oregon Health and Science emphasizes the importance of sleep for long-term health. According to the research, inadequate sleep not only leaves us fatigued but can also shorten our lives. The analyzed data highlights that sleep deficiency has a stronger correlation with lifespan than diet, physical exercise, or loneliness.
The study compared life expectancy data at the county level in the U.S. with detailed information obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between 2019 and 2025. The results show that obtaining 7-9 hours of sleep each night is essential for our long-term health.
"The general suggestion is simple yet extremely important: people should aim for between seven and nine hours of sleep per night, if possible," said Dr. Andrew McHill, the lead author of the study. He added that sleep should not be viewed merely as a necessity but as a crucial part of a healthy lifestyle, equally important as nutrition and physical exercise.
