DoorDash Driver Fired for AI-Based Scam

A DoorDash driver was caught attempting to defraud a customer using artificial intelligence. The driver accepted an order in Austin, Texas, marked it as delivered almost immediately, and sent a generated image of food placed at the customer's door. The only problem: the order never arrived.

Customer Byrne Hobart posted on social media comparing the AI-generated fake image with his door, which bore no resemblance to the one in the photo. DoorDash quickly launched an investigation and permanently banned the driver from the platform. The company provided Hobart with a refund and credit, and his food eventually arrived. Incredible!

Similar Scams

Hobart suspects that the “Dasher” was a scammer who hacked into a legitimate driver's account to collect payments for fake deliveries. Another customer in Austin reported the same scam with the same driver.
