Cryptocurrency Sentiment Improves

The overall sentiment in the cryptocurrency market moved past the "extreme fear" zone on Friday, despite Bitcoin continuing to trade below $90,000. The widely used sentiment indicator recorded a "fear" score of 29, bouncing back to its highest levels in the last 21 days.

At the time of publication, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) stands at $88,995. This increase in sentiment is a positive sign for the cryptocurrency community, with analysts suggesting that the prolonged period of "fear" or "extreme fear" could indicate that the market is poised for some gains.

Brian Rose, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur, stated that "the risk/reward ratio is the best it's ever been," noting that the index had been in fear territory for eight weeks. This duration exceeds even the drops witnessed during the April 2025 crash, when the cryptocurrency market drastically fell following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement regarding global trade tariffs.

Cryptocurrency traders often analyze sentiment indicators to gauge the actions of others and decide when to buy or sell. While fear periods can signal buying opportunities, a shift towards greed may serve as a selling signal.

A cryptocurrency analytics platform, Santiment, reported that market participants express "mixed" sentiments as they approach 2026. "Some are mourning personal losses, while others celebrate gains and the community's resilience. The market shows signs of recovery, and holders express pride in their profits and ongoing commitment. Events and awards stimulate engagement, reflecting optimism despite recent challenges," Santiment stated.

Other indicators suggest a low risk appetite among investors. The Altcoin Season Index on CoinMarketCap recorded a "Bitcoin Season" score of 23 out of 100, fluctuating based on the performance of the top 100 altcoins relative to Bitcoin over the past 90 days.
