SEC Becomes Fully Republican and Prepares for Favorable Cryptocurrency Regulations

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is advancing towards favorable regulations for cryptocurrencies, now under a fully Republican leadership. This shift in direction was prompted by the departure of Caroline Crenshaw, the last commissioner who was skeptical about cryptocurrencies. With a Republican majority, the agency is expected to implement measures that will support the crypto industry, reminiscent of the period under Donald Trump's administration.

In recent days, the Senate was poised to vote on laws concerning the structure of the crypto market, and analysts predict a prolific year for cryptocurrencies. However, the agency's activities will still need to comply with regulatory procedures, which include public announcements and comment periods. Nonetheless, significant progress from the SEC is anticipated by 2026.

The regulatory department isn't the only one now completely controlled by Republicans. Among federal agencies, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) are also led by Republicans, highlighting a broader trend of power consolidation within administrative agencies.
