Results Expected on January 5 Following Historic Elections in Central African Republic
Results of the Elections Highly Anticipated
On January 5, 2026, the results of the first combined elections for president, legislative, regional, and municipal offices in the Central African Republic will be announced. The UN peacekeeping mission (MINUSCA) has reported that the vote counting process has been successfully completed, with observers noting that over 99% of polling stations opened on schedule.
The transfer of results from the 19 prefectural capitals to the national capital, Bangui, is currently underway, supported logistically by the mission. These elections mark an unprecedented moment in the country's political history, as it is the first time four elections have been held simultaneously, and municipal elections have not occurred since 1988.
MINUSCA has closely collaborated with national authorities and UN agencies to ensure the electoral process proceeded smoothly, despite challenging conditions. In total, 84 flights and eight road convoys were carried out to transport over 230 tons of electoral materials.
Despite these challenges, Ms. Rugwabiza emphasized that the mission successfully fulfilled its mandate and condemned a violent attack that occurred in Bambouti, which prevented voting in that locality. The National Electoral Authority (NEA) is expected to announce the preliminary results of the presidential elections on January 5, 2026.
