Bombings Create Panic in Caracas

Pedestrians fled for cover as explosions and the sounds of fighter jets echoed through the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on Saturday morning. US President Donald Trump announced that the United States carried out a "major strike" against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro. In a social media post, Trump stated that Maduro and his wife were "captured and taken out of the country" following the operation, which was conducted "in cooperation with American law enforcement forces."

International Condemnations and Calls for Peace

In an initial statement, Maduro accused the United States of engaging in an "extremely grave military aggression." "Venezuela rejects, condemns, and denounces to the international community the extremely grave military aggression committed by the current U.S. government against the territory and people of Venezuela," proclaimed Maduro's government.

Other countries also reacted to the attack. Colombian President Gustavo Petro took to the social media platform X to declare, "We alert the entire world that Venezuela has been attacked." He reiterated that peace, respect for international law, and the protection of human life and dignity must prevail over any form of armed confrontation.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez harshly condemned the attack, accusing Washington of engaging in a "criminal attack" on Venezuela and calling for an urgent international response. In a post on X, Diaz-Canel stated that the so-called "zone of peace" in Cuba is being "brutally attacked," characterizing the American action as "state terrorism."

In a statement released by various Cuban embassies worldwide, Havana denounced the American military attack, urging for an urgent reaction from the international community.

Iran Condemns the Attack

The Iranian Foreign Ministry declared that it "firmly condemns the American military attack on Venezuela and the blatant violation of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country."
