Attacks on Venezuela Spark Controversy in the United States

The United States' attack on Venezuela and the alleged 'capture' of President Nicolas Maduro has generated intense reactions in Washington, DC, amidst months of rising tensions between the two nations. Democratic lawmakers have primarily condemned President Donald Trump’s actions on Saturday, asserting that they violate international law and lack necessary approval from Congress.

Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib stated: "The illegal and provocative bombing of Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president are serious violations of international law and the United States Constitution. These actions are characteristic of a rogue state. The American people do not want another regime change war abroad."

Senator Andy Kim accused the American Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense of lying. "Donald Trump has rejected the required approval process for armed conflicts, and the administration knows that the American people overwhelmingly oppose the risks of being drawn into another war. The attack does not represent true power and is not a healthy foreign policy," he said.

Congresswoman Betty McCollum called for Trump to immediately cease the attacks, asserting that they are illegal and that Venezuela does not pose an imminent threat to U.S. national security.

Republicans praised the attack, with Senator Tom Cotton stating that Maduro was not only an illegitimate dictator but also a drug trafficking leader who would face justice for his crimes.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance emphasized that the operation to capture Maduro demonstrates that Trump "means what he says." These events once again highlight the controversies surrounding U.S. foreign interventions and their impact on international relations.
