Unprecedented Military Assault in Venezuela

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been captured by the United States, announced President Donald Trump. They were extracted from the country following a military operation conducted in collaboration with American authorities. The charges against them include drug and arms trafficking, and the couple will face trial in New York.

The assault occurred in the early hours of Saturday, with reports of powerful explosions in the capital, Caracas, including at several military bases. The Venezuelan government has demanded proof that Maduro is alive and has declared a state of emergency, mobilizing its armed forces.

The operation was executed by the elite Delta Force unit of the American military, equipped with special gear to breach Maduro's residence, described by Trump as “more of a fortress.” Trump stated that although they were prepared for a further response, the initial attack was so effective that a second phase was unnecessary.

These events come amid heightened tensions between the US and Venezuela, with Maduro accused of direct involvement in drug trafficking. Trump also mentioned he had a conversation with Maduro last week, urging him to surrender.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that the government does not know where Maduro is, calling for immediate proof of his life. International reactions have varied, with Russia and China condemning the US actions, deeming them a military aggression.
