OKX Plans Major Expansion in Regulated Cryptocurrency Ecosystem for 2026
Cryptocurrency Exchanges Prepare for 2026
The cryptocurrency industry is evolving under stricter regulations as major exchanges shape their next cycle around licenses and products designed to withstand regulatory scrutiny. Rather than pursuing explosive growth through speculative listings and high-leverage trading, attention for 2026 is turning toward more solid foundations, such as stricter fiat on-ramps, compliant derivatives across multiple jurisdictions, and the development of stablecoins and tokenization infrastructure.
OKX Aims for Expansion in Licensed Cryptocurrency Markets
Haider Rafique, Global Management Partner at OKX, stated that the exchange has already obtained the necessary approvals to operate in almost all regions of interest. "We anticipate that there will be ongoing regulatory clarity in 2026, especially in the U.S. and hopefully in other parts of Europe," he said.
The Rise of Stablecoins
OKX plans a significant investment in stablecoins for 2026, with the global market expected to reach approximately $310 billion by 2025. Rafique asserts that exchanges are gradually transforming stablecoins into financial products that generate yields. “If you deposit your money at a bank, you lose between 8% and 40% in high-inflation markets,” he added, noting that stablecoins provide users the opportunity to earn without necessitating the locking of funds.
Tokenization of Real Assets and the Future of Markets
In addition to stablecoins, exchanges are preparing for a wave of tokenization of real-world assets (RWA). Rafique mentions that regulatory clarity is needed to determine whether tokenized assets are considered utilities or securities. Once this distinction is clarified, companies will bring commodities, stocks, and metals onto exchange platforms.
Bitcoin Price Predictions
Regarding Bitcoin, Rafique adopts a more tempered view, considering that its key indicators are shifting from hype to macroeconomic forces. His estimation for Bitcoin's price in 2026 is approximately $90,000, with the possibility of reaching between $150,000 and $200,000 if interest rates decrease and liquidity returns.
