Crypto Billionaires Face Significant Losses

Crypto billionaires are among the largest losers of 2025, according to a Bloomberg report. While Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire has increased his wealth by 149%, others like Changpeng Zhao and the Winklevoss twins have experienced substantial losses.

Executive Michael Saylor and other leading figures in the cryptocurrency sector have lost billions in 2025, partly due to a sudden crash in October. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Saylor lost $2.6 billion over the last year, reducing his net worth to $3.8 billion.

Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, along with former Binance CEO Changpeng "CZ" Zhao, also recorded significant losses due to a "massive downturn" in the crypto market in October. Bloomberg reported that Saylor's Bitcoin reserve strategy generated significant profits early in October when Bitcoin hit new highs, but conditions changed rapidly, leading to a decline in Bitcoin's value, which in turn impacted his company's stock.

Although Bloomberg noted that eight individuals contributed to roughly 25% of the total gains of $2.2 trillion for billionaires in 2025, many industry leaders have faced considerable losses throughout the year. Zhao has lost about 5% of his wealth, estimated at $50.9 billion, since January 1, while the Winklevoss twins have seen a staggering 59% drop in the same period.

In contrast, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire managed to increase his wealth by 149% since June 4, spurred by the U.S. government's adoption of comprehensive stablecoin legislation and the Bitcoin accumulation strategy adopted by several companies.

To date, approximately 192 public companies held Bitcoin, yet its price has decreased by about 7% since the beginning of 2025.
