Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon

The Israeli military has launched airstrikes on what it described as "targets" of Hezbollah and Hamas in Lebanon, following evacuation orders issued for four villages in the country's east and south. An Israeli army spokesperson announced plans for airstrikes on the "military infrastructure" of Hezbollah and Hamas in the villages of Hammara and Ain el-Tineh in the Bekaa Valley, as well as in Kfar Hatta and Aanan in the south.

An AFP photographer in Kfar Hatta observed dozens of families fleeing the village after a warning was issued by Israel, coinciding with drone activity in the area. Ambulances and fire trucks are on standby for potential emergencies.

In 2024, Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire mediated by the United States, ending over a year of intense fighting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. However, Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire with bombings and continues to occupy five areas within the country.

Lebanon is facing increasing pressure from the United States and Israel to disarm Hezbollah, and its leaders fear an escalation of Israeli attacks. The Lebanese army anticipates completing disarmament in the southern region near the Litani River—30 kilometers from the Israeli border—by the end of 2025. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on Sunday that disarmament efforts are "far from sufficient."
