Israel Bans NGOs in Gaza, Threatening Humanitarian Efforts
Ban on Humanitarian Activities in Gaza
Israel has announced a ban on NGOs operating in Gaza, a decision that threatens essential humanitarian aid activities. American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a Quaker charity organization, is among those impacted, having maintained a presence in Gaza for 77 years since its founding in 1948 to assist Palestinian refugees expelled by Zionist forces.
Over the years, AFSC has provided support for agricultural development, education, and humanitarian assistance. Since the onset of attacks in 2023, AFSC staff have delivered over one million meals and other essential supplies. Now, in light of this ban, the future of humanitarian aid is at risk.
Continued Genocide and Infrastructure Destruction
The mass killing in Gaza persists even after a ceasefire. Recent Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 400 Palestinians. Additionally, floods have destroyed tens of thousands of tents, while a lack of medical supplies and infrastructure has led to deaths from treatable illnesses.
Restrictive registration policies and limitations on international aid are part of an effort to depopulate Gaza. These actions contribute to unbearable conditions for Gazans, who urgently require reconstruction to restore their healthcare and education systems.
A Tale of Love and Sacrifice
The story of Ahmad, a refugee who lived in Gaza, exemplifies strong ties to his homeland. Even in the face of death, he chose not to forget his roots. His tragic death under bombardment underscores the weight of humanity's responsibility to respond to the suffering in Gaza.
Despite the challenges, the people of Gaza continue to fight for justice and mutual support, demonstrating a spirit of solidarity that transcends borders. Gaza will rise from the ruins, as it has throughout history.
