France Identifies 90 Unauthorized Crypto Companies
The French Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF) has reported that 90 crypto companies in the country have not obtained the necessary license in accordance with the European MiCA regulation, ahead of the deadline set for June 30. According to available information, approximately 40% of these companies do not intend to apply for the required license, while 30% have not responded to the authority's inquiries regarding their intentions.
Stephane Pontoizeau, Executive Director of the Market Intermediary Supervision Division at AMF, stated that these companies were notified as far back as November to inform them about the expiration of the transition period. Companies that fail to comply with MiCA regulations will be required to cease operations starting in July.
Among the companies that have obtained MiCA licenses in France are CoinShares and the Swiss app Relai, both of which received authorization in 2025.
This situation raises concerns regarding the challenges of enforcing the MiCA regulation by the European Union, particularly in light of a potential centralized oversight proposed by the European Commission for ESMA, the supervising agency responsible for ensuring compliance with this regulation.
