Devastating Fire at a Bar in Crans-Montana

Families of the teenagers missing after a fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an agonizing wait for news and are appealing for information about their loved ones on social media. The fire in Crans-Montana was likely caused by fireworks placed on champagne bottles, which came "too close to the ceiling," officials stated.

An investigation into the fire will analyze the materials used at the location, the bar's fire safety measures, its capacity, and the number of people inside at the time, according to Valais Attorney General Beatrice Pilloud. Swiss authorities indicated that it could take days or even weeks to identify the victims of the blaze, which resulted in 40 fatalities and injuries to 119 others. Of the total injured, 113 have been identified, while efforts continue to identify the remaining six.

Missing Teenagers

Among the missing is Charlotte Niddam, a 15-year-old former student from schools in the UK. Her family has requested "love and prayers," emphasizing that Charlotte had studied there for two years before her family returned to France. Local authorities have listed her as a babysitter in the resort during school holidays.

Sixteen-year-old Arthur Brodard is also among those missing. His mother reported that she checked hospitals in Lausanne and Bern but could not locate him. "I need to find my son... it has been 30 hours since he went missing," she expressed. Another missing teenager, Achille Osvaldo Giovanni Barosi, age 16, entered the bar on New Year's morning to retrieve his jacket and phone, but his family has had no news since.

Heartbreaking Waits for Families

"We don’t know if he is still alive," said Achille’s aunt, describing him as a handsome boy and an excellent painter. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that six of its citizens are missing, including Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old golfer.

The family of 22-year-old Emilia Pralong is also awaiting worrying news regarding her, as she was reportedly at a party with several friends. Her grandfather described the wait as "agonizing."
During this distressing time, families and friends are taking to social media, hoping to receive news following this tragic event.
