Why We Sometimes Prefer Large Companies Over Small Businesses
Personal Experience at an Auto Service
As a small business owner, I recently realized that in certain situations, the services offered by large companies can be more efficient than those of small businesses. While I cherish small enterprises and appreciate their contribution to the local economy, based on my experience, I would not choose a small auto service for the maintenance of my vehicle.
Recently, I had a scheduled appointment at a Honda dealer in Philadelphia. The booking process was flawlessly handled by an AI receptionist, who understood my needs without hesitation, and I received confirmation via SMS. A follow-up phone call to verify the details was conducted by a human, providing a sense of professionalism.
Upon arrival at the dealership, I was greeted by two smiling employees and waited in a clean waiting area with free Wi-Fi and coffee. This made my wait much more pleasant compared to many similar experiences at small auto shops, where I often have to wait for long periods before being served.
The service took less than two hours, just as promised, and I was kept informed through SMS updates about the progress, even with a link to a live stream of the work being done. All of this gave me a sense of trust. The work was performed by a certified technician and supervised, and the communication from the dealership was consistent and efficient.
Of course, I paid a higher price for all this. However, for me, the additional cost was justified, considering the comfort and reliability of the service. Even though small businesses are a pillar of the economy, it is clear that for certain services, large companies offer a more consistent and safer standard.
