Ethereum Co-Founder Advocates dApps to Solve Cloudflare Issues by 2025
Ethereum and the Future of Decentralization
Vitalik Buterin, one of the co-founders of the Ethereum blockchain, stated that decentralized applications (dApps) could mitigate the effects of internet infrastructure issues, such as a major disruption of Cloudflare services predicted for November 2025. In a post on platform X, Buterin emphasized that Ethereum must do more to fulfill its mission of "building a world computer that serves as a central component of a freer and more open internet."
According to the co-founder, it all begins with dApps that "operate without fraud, censorship, or interference from third parties" and are scalable on the blockchain. Buterin added, "Applications where, if you are a user, you don’t even notice if Cloudflare goes down—or even if the entire Cloudflare network is attacked by North Korea."
In November, a Cloudflare outage led to a fall of about 20% of the platform's sites, caused by a software malfunction. A post-mortem report from the company revealed that a "feature file" used by its bot management system exceeded the normal limit, causing significant problems.
Buterin and Ethereum Foundation researchers, Yoav Weiss and Marissa Posner, stated in a manifesto published on November 11 that "decentralization is not eroded by capture, but by convenience," emphasizing the dangers of reliance on centralized infrastructure. "It shifts—automatically, continuously—toward reliance on trust," they added.
As the cryptocurrency community continues to discuss the relevance of decentralization, Buterin has been an active participant on social media, promoting innovative ideas about the cryptocurrency industry.
