Early Life of Cilia Flores

Cilia Flores, aged 69, was born on October 15, 1956, in Tinaquillo, Venezuela. She grew up in working-class neighborhoods in Caracas and graduated from the Santa Maria University with a law degree, specializing in labor and criminal law. Her ascent began when she led the team that provided legal assistance to military leader Hugo Chavez in 1992 following his attempted coup against President Carlos Andres Perez. Flores played a crucial role in Chavez's release from prison in 1994, facilitating his successful presidential candidacy in 1999.

Cilia Flores's Political Career

Flores established herself not only as Maduro's partner but also as a political figure in her own right. In 2000, she was elected to the National Assembly and was re-elected in 2005. In 2006, she became the first woman to preside over the Venezuelan Parliament. In 2009, she became the vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, and in 2012, she was appointed Attorney General. After Chavez's death in 2013, Maduro succeeded him, and they were married later that same year.

In 2018, Flores was sanctioned by the U.S. and Canadian authorities after the Organization of American States asserted that the Maduro government committed crimes against humanity.
