Top 5 Blockchains with the Most Transactions in 2025

On-chain data from Nansen revealed that Solana, BNB Chain, Base, Tron, and NEAR managed the highest number of transactions in 2025 as users sought networks with high yields and low fees.

Solana topped the rankings with 23.01 billion transactions, followed by BNB Chain with 3.89 billion. Ethereum's Layer-2 solution, Base, secured third place with 3.29 billion transactions, while Tron recorded 3.22 billion, and NEAR rounded off the list with 1.89 billion. Despite 2025 being marked by institutional adoption, retail usage continued to dominate transaction volumes, especially on blockchains with low fees and high yields.

DEX Boom and Memecoin Frenzy on Solana

Solana's dominance was bolstered by a trading boom that propelled it to the top of DEX rankings in the initial months of 2025. CoinGecko reported that DEX transactions on Solana accounted for 40% of the industry’s market share, with $293.7 billion recorded in the first quarter. This was partially fueled by a memecoin frenzy surrounding celebrity and political tokens, such as $TRUMP, a Solana-based token launched on January 18, linked to American President Donald Trump.

Data from DefiLlama indicated that Solana remained among the top chains for DEX volume throughout the year, with monthly volumes approximately at or exceeding $100 billion.

BNB Chain and the Rise of Memecoins

With approximately 3.89 billion transactions, according to Nansen, BNB Chain coincided with the rise of its own memecoin landscape. Base ranked third in transaction count in 2025, benefiting from direct user distribution from Coinbase’s user base. A projection for 2026 by researcher Messari, AJC, highlighted that Base protocol's revenue increased by about 30 times in 2025, capturing 62% of total L2 revenue.

Tron and NEAR Complete the Top 5

Tron, with 3.22 billion transactions, showcased its role as a foundation for the stablecoin economy. In June 2025, TRON DAO announced that more than half of the circulating USDt (USDT) is issued on its blockchain. NEAR Protocol completed the top five with 1.89 billion transactions in 2025, boasting approximately 46 million users in May, placing it alongside Solana and Tron in activity metrics. A key aspect of NEAR’s narrative in 2025 was its involvement in privacy discussions featuring Zcash (ZEC), which saw a resurgence partly due to the integration of the Zashi wallet by the Electric Coin Company.
