Bangladesh Collaborates with ICC to Address Security Issues for T20 World Cup
Collaboration for Security
Bangladesh's cricket authorities have agreed to work "closely" with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to resolve security concerns related to their team's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will cooperate with tournament organizers to ensure the country's participation, according to a statement made on Wednesday.
This decision came just three days after the BCB announced that the men's team would not travel to India. "The ICC has expressed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to address concerns and assured that the council's opinions will be welcomed and considered as part of the detailed security planning for the event," stated the BCB in its announcement.
Discussions between the ICC and BCB intensified following Bangladesh's request to relocate its matches, given that all group matches for the team had been assigned to India. Bangladesh's refusal to travel stemmed from a recent controversy involving star player Mustafizur Rahman, who was sidelined by the Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders at the behest of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The decision not to travel aligns with rising tensions between the two countries, as the interim government of Bangladesh has recently restricted IPL broadcasting, condemning the sidelining of a "star player" as an unjust act. This dispute has been exacerbated by recent violent events in Bangladesh, leading to a deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
