Armed Assault in Niger

In a devastating attack in the village of Kasuwan-Daji in Niger State, Nigeria, at least 30 individuals were killed by armed men who assaulted the local market, set buildings ablaze, and looted stores. Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles, armed with weapons, and began shooting villagers and taking hostages.

State authorities maintain that despite the increasing number of attacks, security in the area remains inadequate. "The people in the community are terrified and are hiding. They are afraid to speak," stated an official from the Niger Emergency Management Agency. The authorities' response includes sending an emergency team to assist the victims while security forces work on rescuing the abducted individuals.

This tragedy occurred just a day after local officials announced the gradual reopening of schools, which had been closed due to a wave of mass abductions. A resident of the village has called on the government for assistance, reminding that the dangers are not restricted to other regions but are now affecting their communities directly.
