Aryna Sabalenka Triumphs at Brisbane

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus celebrated her victory after defeating Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in the final of the Brisbane International, held on January 11, 2026, at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane. The world's number one ranked player clinched the title with a score of 6-4, 6-3, securing the championship without dropping a set as she prepares to reclaim her title at the Australian Open later this month.

Kostyuk made an impressive run to the final, overcoming top 10 players such as Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, and Amanda Anisimova, but she could not withstand the immense power of the US Open champion. Determined to regain the Australian Open title she lost last year, Sabalenka's performance in the intense heat of Brisbane indicates she will be tough to beat at Melbourne Park. "Thank you to my team for managing me. I am truly the hardest person to manage, and you are the best people in the world if you can tolerate me," she stated before the audience, also referencing her partner, Georgios Frangulis, in the stands. "Thank you, my love. I hope I can call you something else soon, right? Let’s put a little more pressure on, shall we?"

Sabalenka began the match with a quick 3-0 lead in the opening set but faced challenges as her first serve faltered. Nevertheless, she quickly regained her composure and closed out the set. Starting the second set with another break, Kostyuk struggled to respond and faced difficulties in maintaining her serve. Sabalenka ultimately won her 22nd WTA title, concluding the match when Kostyuk sent the ball into the net on her first match point.

Kostyuk expressed that she constantly thinks of those suffering in her war-torn homeland: "I play every day with a heavy heart, while thousands of people have no light and hot water. It’s minus 20 degrees Celsius outside now, so it is very, very painful to live this reality every day." As Sabalenka prepares for her third victory at the Australian Open and her fifth major title, the competition is set to begin on January 18.
