Aidarous al-Zubaidi, the leader of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen, has recently been in the spotlight after Rashad al-Alimi, president of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), dismissed him from his council position. Born in 1967 in the village of Zubayd, al-Zubaidi was an officer in the air force and began his military career in 1988. Following the defeat in the civil war of 1994, he was forced into exile but returned in 1996 to found an armed faction.
