Crucial Meetings for Venezuelan Oil

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to meet with executives from American oil companies this week to discuss increasing oil production in Venezuela, following the U.S. forces' abduction of leader Nicolas Maduro. According to Reuters, these meetings are essential for the administration's strategy to bring back the largest U.S. oil companies to this South American nation, which nearly two decades ago seized operations run by U.S. interests.

Companies such as Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips, and Chevron have not yet engaged with the Trump administration regarding the removal of Maduro, contradicting the president's claims of having met with "all" oil companies both before and after the abduction. "None of those three companies have had conversations with the White House about operating in Venezuela, either before or after the removal," a source in the oil sector stated.

These meetings will be crucial, as Venezuela, a former OPEC member, holds the largest oil reserves in the world, and its oil can be refined by U.S. refineries. Analysts warn that achieving this objective will require years of work and billions in investments, as the lack of infrastructure and political uncertainties remain significant challenges.

A White House spokesperson stated that the U.S. oil industry is ready to invest significantly in Venezuela to rebuild the oil infrastructure destroyed by Maduro's regime. However, companies are reluctant to discuss operations in Venezuela in group meetings due to antitrust concerns.

In summary, investments in Venezuelan infrastructure are expected to take a long time and will take place in a weakened global energy market, especially considering that U.S. oil prices have dropped by 20% compared to last year.
