Activists Initiate Hunger Strike for Justice
Solidarity with Palestine Action Detainees
Mansoor Adayfi, a writer, artist, activist, and former Guantanamo prisoner, has announced his participation in a hunger strike in solidarity with pro-Palestinian activists in the United Kingdom. "I know this path well. We were treated as numbers, stripped of our voices and rights. A hunger strike is not a symbolic gesture, but a painful struggle for survival," he stated.
Eight activists, including Heba Muraisi and Qesser Zurah, have refused food, with some already having been transported to the hospital. They are isolated in prisons, enduring solitude, which serves as a form of punishment and control. United Nations experts have expressed concern for their health, warning of risks related to organ failure and death due to inadequate medical care.
Adayfi highlighted the dangers associated with such actions: "A hunger strike begins when every other door is closed, when the system tells you that your life has no value. It is not a dramatic action, but an extreme response to oppression." He called on authorities to ensure access to proper medical care and to listen to the activists' demands.
He added that the history of hunger strikes shows that power often laughs before delivering suffering. "This is not democracy but a degradation of the state. We must unite and not remain silent in the face of this injustice," Adayfi concluded.
