Ukraine has received a major new financial package from the European Union. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Brussels has transferred €5.9 billion through the ERA Loans program and the EU’s strategic Ukraine Facility, aimed at supporting the country’s economy and defense.

In a message shared on X, Zelensky emphasized that a significant portion of these funds comes from profits generated by frozen Russian assets across EU member states. “This means that Russia is already starting to pay for its aggression,” the Ukrainian leader stated, adding that sustained pressure on Moscow is essential for achieving real peace.

The EU funds will help stabilize Ukraine’s economy, maintain government operations, and strengthen the country’s defensive capabilities. Zelensky also urged European partners to move forward quickly with political decisions that would allow the full use of Russian assets to finance war reparations and reconstruction.

He expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for her “leadership and continued support.” This financial transfer marks one of the most significant tranches delivered to Kyiv in recent months, underscoring the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary.
