Senegal Advances to AFCON Final by Defeating Egypt 1-0
Senegal Advances to Final Thanks to Sadio Mane
Senegal achieved a crucial victory in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations, facing Egypt, a team with seven African titles, with a score of 1-0. Sadio Mane, a two-time African Player of the Year, scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute after shooting from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom left corner, capitalizing on a rebound from Lamine Camara.
The victory brought joy and relief to the fans of the "Teranga Lions" in Tangier, who witnessed a balanced performance where Senegal took the initiative but was frustrated by Egypt's solid defense. Senegal's captain, Kalidou Koulibaly, will be absent from the final after receiving a yellow card and getting injured in the 23rd minute. Koulibaly was booked in the 17th minute for a tactical foul on Omar Marmoush and was substituted due to injury.
Although Senegal had several chances, including two saved efforts from Habib Diarra and Pape Gueye, the match was tense, culminating in a foul by Mohamed Salah on Mane. The coaches of both teams, Pape Thiaw and Hossam Hassan, managed to calm the situation. However, Habib Diarra was cautioned for protesting, meaning he will also miss the final.
In the final moments of the match, Egypt tried to recover, but their desperate efforts, including a dangerous free kick taken by Salah, did not materialize. Thus, Senegal advanced to the final, where they will face either Morocco or Nigeria.
