Severe Weather Conditions in Gaza

Severe weather conditions are bringing new suffering to the displaced Palestinians in Gaza, who have endured relentless bombardments, sieges, and the losses stemming from Israel's genocidal war for over two years. Israel continues to block essential aid from entering the territory. Makeshift camps were inundated, and fragile tents were covered in mud on Monday, following torrential rains in recent days.

Suffering Intensifies

The harsh conditions have exacerbated the suffering of Palestinians, most of whom are forced to seek shelter in tents and other temporary structures, as approximately 80% of buildings have been destroyed. Officials are warning that the severe weather poses new dangers, such as the risk of disease and infections due to rainwater contamination with sewage. On Sunday, a 30-year-old woman died when a partially destroyed wall collapsed onto her tent in the Remal neighborhood of Gaza City.

Calls for Humanitarian Deliveries

Relief groups are urging the international community to pressure Israel to lift restrictions on vital aid deliveries, which are far below the required levels set during the U.S.-mediated ceasefire. Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, stated: "More rain means more human suffering, despair, and death." More than 414 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire came into effect.
