The new teaser trailer for “Toy Story 5” asks a timely question: Has the age of traditional toys come to an end?

The clip, released Tuesday by Pixar, plays on the modern parenting debate about screen time. Set to INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart,” the teaser shows a package arriving for Bonnie Anderson — the girl who inherited Andy’s toys in the emotional finale of “Toy Story 3.”

As Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Rex, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and the rest of the gang watch with dread, Bonnie opens the box to reveal a frog-themed tablet named Lilypad, which greets her with an enthusiastic, “Let’s play!”

Her thrilled reaction suggests the toys will have to fight harder than ever to stay relevant.

It remains to be seen if the movie will comment on the humorous irony that these very toys helped contribute to screen culture by starring in a beloved film franchise for three decades.

“Toy Story 5” brings back Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and other familiar cast members, while welcoming newcomers Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien and Greta Lee — who voices Lilypad.

Pixar says the film will be released in theaters in summer 2026.
