A Credibility Crisis in Western Media

A significant crisis of credibility is emerging in Western media, rooted less in concrete evidence and more in who dies to serve imperial interests. For two and a half years, the Western press has scrutinized every Palestinian death, questioning whether these individuals were truly human and if they actually died as a result of Israeli attacks.

Systematic Underestimation of Deaths in Gaza

The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported that over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed during the conflict, but independent organizations and the UN claim the actual number is much higher. For instance, a study published in The Lancet in July 2024 estimates that the death toll exceeds 186,000. Nevertheless, Western media continues to contest these figures, treating them with reluctance and skepticism.

Perception Differences Regarding Iran

In contrast, the deaths resulting from protests in Iran have been accepted more readily as credible. Media companies such as CBS have reported significantly higher death estimates, relying on anonymous sources without direct access to the country. This highlights a selectivity in how deaths are reported, depending on current political interests.

Media Hypocrisy and Its Consequences

The media appears to apply a different standard concerning the deaths of Palestinians and Iranians, choosing to overlook the pain and suffering in Gaza while embracing resources from Iran. This suggests a lack of moral coherence in their reporting, raising questions about which lives are deemed valuable and which are quietly accepted.
