EU and Mercosur Strike Historic Trade Agreement
Historic Pact Between the European Union and Mercosur Trade Bloc
The European Union and the Mercosur trade bloc, comprising five Latin American nations, have reached a comprehensive trade agreement after nearly 25 years of negotiations. This pact will establish one of the largest free trade areas in the world, connecting markets of over 700 million people.
While the agreement is seen as part of Europe's efforts to reduce economic dependence on China, it faces opposition from farmers in several European countries. This development comes against the backdrop of tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump on countries worldwide and his recent military intervention in Venezuela.
Remaining questions include whether major investors in the oil industry will invest in Venezuela and whether the vast resources of Greenland will prove profitable.
