Trump Announces Drastic Measures Amid Protests in Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials, urging protesters to "take over your institutions" in light of the ongoing repression in Tehran. In a social media post, Trump stated that "help is on the way," without providing further details.

In recent days, Trump has contemplated ordering military attacks against Iran. "Iranian patriots, CONTINUE to protest – TAKE OVER your institutions!!! Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a heavy price," Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social. "I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials until the senseless killing of protesters stops. HELP IS ON THE WAY! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Trump has previously threatened Iran with military action as a means of pressuring Tehran to align more closely with U.S. demands. In the past week, he emphasized that a harsh response from Iranian authorities towards protesters could provoke attacks from the U.S. Furthermore, Trump announced that any country conducting business with Iran would be subjected to a 25% tax.

Analysts have warned that American attacks, which could violate international law, may have unpredictable consequences in Iran, which is currently facing its largest wave of protests in several years. Human rights groups outside Iran claim that hundreds have been killed during the protests, while state media reports that over 100 security agents have been killed. Al Jazeera cannot verify these figures, and an internet blackout in Iran has restricted the flow of information.
