BNB Chain Enhances Performance with Fermi Update
BNB Chain Improves Performance with Fermi Update
BNB Chain has recently launched the Fermi update, which reduces block generation time on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) from 0.75 seconds to 0.45 seconds. This modification aims to increase transaction processing speed and enhance the network's reliability. According to BNB Chain's CEO, Nina Rong, the goal is to provide a finality of "around one second" without compromising reliability.
The Fermi update completes the last phase of the network’s "short block interval" plan and introduces stricter regulations for rapid finality voting, ensuring that blocks are generated synchronously even during congestion periods. Additionally, the changes are designed to improve the real-world performance of latency-sensitive applications, such as on-chain trading and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.
While most decentralized applications (DApps) and smart contracts will not require code changes, teams relying on precise block timing should check their assumptions, as blocks will now be generated significantly faster. Furthermore, the network will monitor post-update performance, providing validators with tools to quickly detect any issues that may arise.
