Storm Brings Extreme Cold and Destruction to Gaza

Eight Palestinians have lost their lives in war-torn Gaza following a severe storm that brought frigid temperatures, worsening the plight of tens of thousands of displaced individuals who are surviving in fragile shelters. Strong winds caused the collapse of damaged buildings from Israeli attacks during the genocide against the enclave.

Israel continues to block essential humanitarian aid and supplies for shelters, violating a ceasefire that began on October 10. A spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza reported that four deaths occurred due to the cold temperatures caused by a severe weather depression that brought torrential rains and freezing winds.

Among the victims is a one-year-old baby who died in a tent before being taken to the hospital. Four other Palestinians were killed when war-damaged buildings collapsed during the storm, with three of them, including a 15-year-old girl, perishing in Gaza City.

Al-Aqsa Hospital has reported an increase in patients, particularly children, suffering from cold-related illnesses, as the storm-damaged shelters became unusable. The director of a non-governmental organization in Gaza warned that the situation is the worst since the beginning of the winter storms, exposing approximately 10,000 families to additional dangers and displacements.

The mayor of Gaza City, Yahya al-Sarraj, stated that Palestinians in the enclave are trapped in tragic circumstances, sheltering in inadequate tents, while calls for the international community to allow aid into the territory are intensifying.

At a press conference, a spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned the "human-made humanitarian disaster" in Gaza, emphasizing that Israel must allow aid to enter the enclave. UNICEF reported that since the ceasefire began three months ago, over 100 children have been killed in Gaza.
