Sabalenka Dominates Semifinals and Prepares for Final Against Kostyuk
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka defeated Karolina Muchova with a score of 6-3, 6-4 at the Brisbane International, securing her spot in the final of the Australian Open warm-up tournament for the third consecutive year.
In Sunday’s final, the Belarusian will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who triumphed over world number six Jessica Pegula with a convincing score of 6-0, 6-3, marking her third consecutive victory against a top 10 player.
Ranked number one in the world, Sabalenka has shown outstanding form in the season's opening competition, arriving at her match against Muchova after defeating Melbourne Park champion Madison Keys in straight sets during the quarterfinals. Although the match with Muchova was anticipated to be more challenging, Sabalenka controlled the encounter, breaking serve in the second game and winning the first set with a powerful backhand.
Despite facing more pressure in the second set, Sabalenka managed to maintain her lead and closed out the match on her serve. "I had many tense moments at the end of the second set, but I am super happy to have won in straight sets," said Sabalenka. "She is a great opponent, and I knew that if I gave her any chance in the last games, she would take it, so I’m glad that I managed to win."
