Southern Transitional Council in Yemen Announces Dissolution
Dissolution of the Southern Transitional Council
The southern separatists in Yemen have decided to dissolve following discussions in Saudi Arabia, announced the organization's Secretary General, Abdulrahman Al-Subaihi. The declaration was made on Friday during a broadcast on Yemeni television, stating that this decision was taken to maintain peace and security in the south and neighboring countries.
Al-Subaihi praised "the measures adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the solutions provided that meet the needs of the population in the south." However, there was no immediate comment from members of the separatist group who did not participate in the discussions in Riyadh. The STC noted that it had lost contact with all members of the delegation in Riyadh, indicating a division within the group.
A conflict between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates has emerged after the STC, supported by Riyadh, launched an offensive against Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia in December. On Thursday, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen declared that STC leader Aidarous al-Zubaidi had fled to the UAE via Somaliland after missing discussions in Riyadh, accusing the UAE of having forced him out of the country.
