Significant Attack in Southern Gaza

An Israeli airstrike targeting a tent in southern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least three Palestinians and injuries to three others, according to local rescuers. This incident occurs as Israel persists in its bombardments of the coastal enclave, despite a ceasefire established in October. The Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza reported on Thursday that its teams recovered the bodies of the three deceased individuals after the Israeli military struck a family tent in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis.

Additionally, Israeli gunfire has taken the life of an 11-year-old Palestinian girl, Hamsa Housou, in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza. Her uncle, Khamis Housou, recounted waking up to screams coming from the family building. "I saw Hamsa lying on the floor, with blood coming from her nose and mouth," he stated.

These attacks take place amidst Israel’s ongoing military assault on Gaza, despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States that came into effect on October 10. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported that at least 425 Palestinians have been killed and 1,206 injured in Israeli attacks since October 11. Concurrently, hundreds of thousands of displaced families are now sheltering in makeshift tent camps throughout Gaza, after their homes were destroyed in what has been described as Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinians.

Israel has refused to allow a free flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, even as United Nations and humanitarian groups have warned that Palestinians are suffering due to a series of deadly winter storms. Many camps have been flooded due to recent heavy rains, leading to calls from Palestinians for better tents, blankets, and warm clothing. "Doctors Without Borders" has reported that Palestinians in Gaza are suffering from "respiratory infections, complications from injuries, and skin diseases" due to the harsh living conditions.

Infants are also enduring "severe cold," as Israel continues to block or delay the entry of essential supplies such as tents and temporary shelters. Meanwhile, Israel has taken actions to obstruct international aid groups, including "Doctors Without Borders" and the Norwegian Refugee Council, from operating in Gaza. Israeli authorities have revoked the operating licenses of 37 humanitarian organizations for failing to comply with new regulations that require details about employees, funding, and operations. Experts argue that these requirements violate humanitarian principles and form part of a long-standing campaign by the Israeli government to undermine and ultimately obstruct the efforts of organizations providing assistance to Palestinians.
