Innovation and Ambition in Mexican Tourism

When Americans seek an energetic show, they usually turn to Las Vegas. However, for a tropical getaway in Mexico, they often choose Tulum or Cancún. Ivan Chávez, executive vice president of Grupo Vidanta, is taking a different path – a path illuminated by torches and traversed by gondolas. The son of legendary Mexican entrepreneur Daniel Chávez Morán, who founded the luxury resort developer Grupo Vidanta over 50 years ago, Chávez aims to reimagine what a world-class resort experience means in Mexico.

"Our long-standing goal has been to ensure that Mexico can compete on the global stage – at the highest level in everything we do," he states.

Vidanta World – A Unique Destination

Chávez oversees Vidanta World, an enormous resort complex in Nuevo Vallarta. Think of it as Disneyland with more elegance – minus the characters. Tourism is one of Mexico's strongest industries, yet also one that is extremely competitive. "You’re not just competing locally," Chávez asserts. "You’re competing with Las Vegas, Orlando, and even Asia. So, whenever we build something here, we are doing it for the global market."

Vidanta World emphasizes enhancing the best elements of a dream vacation – gourmet dining, luxury accommodations, and idyllic beaches – all within one immersive destination.

Partnership with Cirque du Soleil

The most ambitious element in Vidanta World's entertainment offering is LUDŌ, a resident show created exclusively for the resort by Cirque du Soleil. "We believe that combining the best aspects of Mexico with the top global entertainment offerings is essential to achieving our vision," explains Chávez. "That’s why we teamed up with Cirque du Soleil."
