Bitcoin Could Hit $100,000

Recent data regarding Bitcoin liquidations suggests a potential 'absurd' surge towards $100,000, according to analysts.

Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a sharp rebound of 7.4% at the beginning of January, drawing attention to positioning in the futures markets. Liquidation data indicates there is an imbalance that could asymmetrically influence prices.

Over $10.6 billion in long positions would be liquidated if BTC reverted to $84,000, while only around $2 billion in short positions would be affected if the price reached $104,000. This situation creates volatility risks for Bitcoin.

A cryptocurrency trader noted that retail traders are mostly short, suggesting that a price increase could liquidate roughly 6,000 BTC in retail short positions.

However, one analyst emphasized that a direct ascent to new historical highs is unlikely. Bitcoin must first recover the $100,000 level to confirm a structural trend reversal.

Short-term risks remain, as Bitcoin may test recently formed CME gaps between $90,600 and $91,600, but there remains uncertainty regarding long-term direction.
