Glasner, Crystal Palace Manager, Avoids Questions on Manchester United

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner dismissed questions regarding the managerial vacancy at Manchester United on Tuesday, cryptically stating that "he is not allowed to bet." The Austrian is among the bookmakers' favorites to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday after 14 months at Old Trafford.

At 51 years old, Glasner has impressed since joining Palace in 2024, leading the team to its first major trophy by winning the FA Cup last season. The manager, whose contract expires at the end of the season, revealed last month that discussions for a new agreement are currently on hold.

Ahead of the home match against Aston Villa, he refrained from commenting on the United job. "I am not allowed to bet," he stated. "My contract has a clause that says I cannot bet. I am not looking at that." Glasner was asked if it would be wise to consider him as a candidate for the next United manager. "I also cannot provide inside information as it would breach my contract," he replied with a smile. "I am the manager of Crystal Palace. It makes no sense, and it is a waste of time for you to ask me more, so I will not talk about other clubs."

Glasner noted that the length of managerial contracts has limited significance. "You can win trophies and six months later not be the manager anymore, so I believe that looking at the length of a contract means nothing about the future," he emphasized. "Even if I sign a new contract, you could ask me every day: 'What is the future?' Ruben Amorim stated he had 18 months left in a press conference, and now he is no longer the manager. There’s only one situation that keeps you in the managerial position—that is success."
