Americans Divided on Kidnapping Operation of Maduro, Survey Reveals

Divided Opinion Among Americans

A recent survey has shown that Americans are split on supporting the U.S. military operation aimed at the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. 33% of Americans back the kidnapping, while 34% oppose it, and 32% are unsure.

Republican Party Support

Supporters of the Republican Party, led by Donald Trump, are much more likely to endorse this military action, with 65% in favor compared to only 11% of Democrats and 23% of independents.

Washington's Involvement

Regarding who should govern Venezuela, the survey indicates that the majority of Americans are against U.S. involvement, with 43% opposed to the idea versus 34% in favor.

American Military Presence

Americans also oppose the deployment of troops in Venezuela, with a ratio of 47% to 30%. Additionally, 46% of respondents disapprove of the idea that the Trump administration should take control of Venezuela's oil fields.

Concerns About Over-Involvement

When asked whether the U.S. could become “too involved” in Venezuela, 72% of Americans expressed being very or somewhat concerned. Trump stated on Saturday that the U.S. should “lead” Venezuela, although officials in his administration have tried to downplay the prospect of occupying the country.

Maduro's Court Appearance

Following his kidnapping, Maduro appeared in court on Monday to face charges of “narcoterrorism,” drug trafficking, and possession of firearms. He pleaded not guilty, claiming to be a victim of kidnapping. “I am still the president of my country,” Maduro stated through an interpreter.

New Leadership in Venezuela

In the wake of his kidnapping, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has been appointed interim president of Venezuela, expressing her sorrow over the abduction of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
