US Forces Kidnap Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro
Nicolas Maduro Faces International Abduction
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, aged 63, has maintained a firm grip on power for over a decade. This reign abruptly ended on Saturday, January 3, when American forces kidnapped him and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores, extracting them from the country. Both are set to stand trial in an American court on charges related to drug trafficking and arms.
Maduro was born into a working-class family on November 23, 1962, in El Valle, Caracas. His political career began intertwined with labor organization, as he became involved in transport workers' unions. He emerged as a supporter of Hugo Chavez and was elected as President of Venezuela in 2013 following Chavez's death.
Under Maduro's leadership, Venezuela's economy has faced a drastic decline, leading to widespread riots and massive protests. His response to these actions has been repressive, and the wave of dissatisfaction has resulted in growing instability within the country. Recently, amid intensified international pressure and imposed sanctions, Maduro attracted the attention of American special forces, culminating in his abduction.
