Tyson Fury Announces Boxing Comeback After 2024 Retirement
Former World Champion Declares Return to the Ring
Former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury has announced his return to the sport after retiring in December 2024 following a defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in a contest for three of the four major world titles. The British star confirmed his comeback via a social media post, reigniting possibilities for an anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua.
"2026 is my year. I am back in the ring," Fury wrote on Instagram. "I’ve been away for a while, but now I’m back at 37 years old and still throwing punches. There’s nothing better to do than hit men in the face and get paid for it."
Prior to his two bouts with Usyk, Fury remained undefeated in 35 matches, winning 34 with one draw. Although he did not mention potential opponents, his announcement comes amid growing speculation about a matchup with fellow British rival Joshua in 2026. Joshua, a former world champion himself, recently defeated YouTube star Jake Paul by knockout, but sustained injuries in a fatal car accident in Nigeria, raising uncertainties about his immediate plans.
Fury is a two-time world champion, having ended Wladimir Klitschko's reign with a points victory in 2015, thus becoming the Super WBA, IBF, and WBO champion. He returned to the ring in 2018, where a thrilling trilogy with American Deontay Wilder resulted in one draw and two victories, allowing him to claim the WBC title. Although he previously stated he would retire following his win against Dillian Whyte in 2022, he returned to the ring the following year. A match against Joshua has long been anticipated, with possibilities also looming for a final bout with Usyk or a fight against WBO champion Fabio Wardley.
