Anthony Joshua Returns to the UK After Fatal Accident in Nigeria
Tragic Accident on a Road in Nigeria
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has recently returned to the United Kingdom following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends. Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele died when the vehicle they were in with Joshua collided with a stationary truck on a road near Lagos on Monday.
Joshua sustained only minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, being declared clinically fit to recover at home. According to British media reports, he returned home ahead of the funerals for Ghami and Ayodele. Ghami was his strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele served as his trainer.
Just hours before the accident, Joshua and Ayodele posted videos on social media playing table tennis together. This unfortunate turn of events follows the accusation by Nigerian police against the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, for “dangerous driving causing death.” Kayode is set to appear in court on January 20.
Joshua, who has family roots in Nigeria, was on vacation in the African country following his victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, 2025.
