U.S. Control Over Venezuela

President Donald Trump announced that the United States will take control of Venezuela until a "proper transition" is achieved. This decision follows military attacks on the country, resulting in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife on January 3.

Trump stated that the two were seized from a fortified residence and will be transferred to New York. The president added that "there are some injuries, but there have been no fatalities on our side." Maduro is accused in New York of drug and arms trafficking, with Attorney General Pam Bondi asserting that he will "face the full rigor of American justice on American soil, in American courts."

Venezuela has declared a national state of emergency, denouncing "extremely serious military aggression."
