Controversial Incident at the Gaza Border

The BBC has reached an agreement with an Israeli family who survived the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, after a team of journalists entered their severely damaged home without permission. A BBC news crew, including international editor Jeremy Bowen, filmed inside the property in the days following the deadly attacks. They captured personal photographs of the family's children at a time when many of their friends and relatives were still uncertain about their survival, according to reports from Jewish News.

A spokesperson for the BBC stated that while they generally do not comment on specific legal issues, they are pleased to have come to an agreement in this case. Tzeela Horenstein reported that attackers threw a grenade at her husband, Simon, during the assault in the village of Netiv HaAsara on the morning of October 7. She remarked that their family, consisting of two young children, survived only because their door jammed when the assailants attempted to blow it up with explosives.

“The terrorists not only entered our home and tried to kill us, but the BBC team entered again, this time with a camera as a weapon, without permission or consent. It was another violation of our privacy. We felt as though everything else we had control over was taken from us,” said Tzeela Horenstein. A report from Jewish News indicated that the corporation paid a financial settlement of £28,000 to the family. The conflict in Gaza was sparked by the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.
