Trump Threatens Intervention in Iranian Protests, Calls It "Unreasonable"

Trump Criticized by Iranian Foreign Minister

The Iranian Foreign Minister has described Donald Trump's promise of intervention in the country's protests as "unreasonable and dangerous." This reaction followed the American president's warning to Iranian authorities not to eliminate peaceful protesters, mentioning that Washington "will intervene in support of them."

In a brief message on social media, Trump stated, "We are prepared and equipped to act," without providing additional details. In a statement on platform X, Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister, pointed out that given the deployment of the National Guard on American soil, Trump should understand that criminal attacks on public property cannot be tolerated. He added that Iran will "firmly reject any interference in its internal affairs."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Iranian police announced that authorities would not allow "enemies" to transform "unrest into chaos." By Saturday morning, at least eight people had reportedly died during the week-long protests, with most casualties occurring in cities in the western part of the country.

The protests began in Tehran among merchants, triggered by a significant drop in the value of the Iranian currency against the US dollar. However, over time, they expanded to a wide range of cities, involving students who began to cry out against the country’s clerical leaders. Although these demonstrations are the most widespread since the uprising in 2022, sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, their scale has not reached the same dimensions. President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that he would listen to the "legitimate demands" of the protesters, but the Attorney General warned that any attempts to create instability would receive a "decisive response."

Iran’s Ambassador to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, has called on the Security Council to condemn Trump's statements, emphasizing that "Iran will exercise its rights resolutely and proportionately." This was a clear reaction to perceived illegal threats, with the US bearing full responsibility for any repercussions that may arise.
